Flag of Comunidad de Madrid

The flag of the Community of Madrid is a crimson (carmesí) field — a deep red traditionally associated with Castile — charged in the center with the seven five-pointed silver stars of the regional coat of arms, arranged 4-3 in the pattern of Ursa Major. The use of crimson recalls the historical Comunero uprising of Castile in the 16th century, while the seven stars represent the seven administrative subdivisions of the Community. The flag was officialized by Law 2/1983.

The coat of arms of the Community of Madrid is azure (blue), charged with seven five-pointed silver stars arranged 4-3 — representing the constellation of Ursa Major (the Plough), a reference to the historical city of Madrid which has traditionally borne this constellation as its symbol. The shield bears two crowned gold castles at the base, representing the union between Castile and the Community of Madrid. The shield is ensigned with a closed royal crown. The arms were officialized by Law 2/1983.
